Today is January 28, 2017. I phoned yesterday to Sask Power about our meter. I sent in a reading on January 14, 2017 and then I checked it on January 22, 2017. It showed a difference on 2400 kw. That is five times the usually amount that we use on an average month. I felt just sick that in just 8 days we used 2500 kw!
The only reason I could think of the big increase, is the water pressure switch. Every time it stopped working we pulled on the handle for it to spark. Then it would start the flow of water. So I’m thinking if every time it sparked it drew a lot of electricity, it would of caused the big increase in meter reading.
The next few days I checked the meter every morning to make sure it wasn’t increasing in large amounts every day. I figured that we had used 236 kw every day. If we continued at that rate our bill at the end of the month would be over $1300!
The customer representative said they only check the meter in rural areas once a year. There was nothing they could do, we could have an electrician come and check it out. Electrician are so expensive we couldn’t afford to do that. I will just have to keep an close watch on the meter.
Today is February 8, 2017. I have been checking the meter quite frequently. So I had checked the meter on January 22, 2017 and that’s when it showed a big jump. Then I checked it on January 23, 2017 and we used 69 kw. I check on January 26, 2017 and we used 34 kw. On January 27, 2017 I checked the meter and we used 46 kw. I checked again on January 29, 2017 and we used 51 kw. The next reading is really strange it seems the meter has gone backwards. So I’m wondering if there is something wrong with the meter. I sure hope it keeps on going backwards! The reading showed a negative use of 724 kw.
I will keep checking the meter and if there is more to this story I will do an update.
Today is February 10, 2017. I phone Sask Power to ask them about our meter. I told the clerk the readings for the meter for the last two weeks. The clerk said you were to have an electrician look at your house. I told her we couldn’t afford to have an electrician come to our house. She said well there isn’t anything I can do right now. I said so, what does it mean when the meter is going backwards? She asked me to tell her the dates for the readings. She said I’ll put you on hold. When she came back she said they would send someone out to check the meter. It would be in a week.
A technician Sask Power came to check the meter, this afternoon. He said he was just going to change it to a digital meter. He didn’t understand why there was such a big jump in the meter.
It sure didn’t take them long to come out when it was going backwards!
